Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among the world and is the second most frequent cause of death.

There are two types of breast cancer

(i) About 80% suffered by Ductal type breast cancer (i.e) carcinoma in the cells that line the ducts of breast. (tubes that carry milk to the nipple)

(ii) 8 to 15 % suffered from Lobular type (i.e) cancer of the lobular of breast. (glands where milk is formed)

According to Ayurveda, unbalanced physiology leads to faulty inherent intelligence, which leading to malfunctioning of genes and genes behaviour leading to diseases like cancer. That’s why Mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health balance are very important part of healing.

Herbal treatment is the most useful complementary and useful method for prevention and diagnosing breast cancer . Because it reduces the lethal side effects and complications of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. At the same time, in the domain of cancer prevention, herbs may perform through numerous mechanisms to shield the body.

However, you can reduce your risk of getting breast cancer with healthy habits such as limiting alcohol consumption, avoiding smoking, controlling weight avoiding exposure to radiation and pollution, staying physically active and finally having regular medical checkus. Breast feeding is also a well-known method to lower a women’s risk for breast cancer.

1.TURMERIC

Turmeric which is rich in curcumin, is one of the active ingredient in the root, and rootstock or rhizome. Its anti- mutagenic action is attributed to its phenolic constituents. It is also giving a good progress for lung, stomach and skin malignancies. It’s anti-oxidant acts a anti-inflammatory agent and reduces the growth of cancer.

Studies have revealed that turmeric inhibits and enhances the natural anti-oxidant functions of the body.

So, it is suggested to add “Little turmeric powder to your foods or eating a pinch of raw turmeric with water every morning on an empty stomach”.


But it is not suitable for blood thinners and person having gall bladder problems.

Note: There have been some reports of stomach pain if too much turmeric is swallowed and skin problems if it is taken for a long time. For these reasons we recommend that if you use curcumin for reasons other than in cooking, you should talk to your doctor first.


2. GARLIC

Intake of garlic as a therapeutic agent has been practised since past several decades.


Garlic prevents creation as well as development of cancer by increasing action of natural killer cells and macrophages.

Regularise the habit of using garlic during cooking, you can also crush and swallow a piece of garlic every morning.

Note: Blood thinners should consult with doctor before using.

3. SALMON

Salmon is an oily fish that contains a good amount of omega­3 fatty acids that slow the growth of cancerous tumours and boost the immune system. At the same time, salmon is a lean protein and a good source of vitamins B12 and D. All these elements provide your body with the nutrients required to regulate cell growth and prevent cancer.


You can eat salmon steamed, baked or grilled. For best results, eat three ­ounce servings of fresh salmon two times a week.

Along with salmon, other oily fishes that help prevent breast cancer are mackerel, sardines, trout, sea bass and tuna.

4. TOMATOES

A study published in the Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism indicates that a diet rich in tomatoes may help protect postmenopausal women from breast cancer.


Tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that can prevent the development of breast cancer by stopping cancer cell growth. According to the American Institute for Cancer Research, lycopene also stops tumour growth by interfering with abnormal cell growth.



Lycopene is also beneficial in stopping other types of cancer cells from growing, including those involved in lung and endometrial cancer.

Even cooked, concentrated or processed tomatoes give benefits, However, the best option is to drink a half glass of tomato juice daily.

5. FLAXSEED

Flaxseed contains high levels of lignans that protect against oestrogens dependent cancers like breast cancer. Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are among the few sources of the essential omega­3 fatty acid ALA, which forms a protective shield against cancer cells responsible for breast cancer.


You can add powdered flaxseed to yogurt or a smoother to create a richer and nutty flavour. You can also add flaxseed oil to salad dressings or integrate it into baked goods, such as cookies or muffins.

6. SPINACH

Spinach contains the antioxidant lutein that plays a key role in guarding against breast cancer along with mouth, oesophagus and stomach cancer. It is also rich in zeaxanthin and carotenoids that remove unstable molecules called free radicals from your body before they cause damage.

Women must take spinach for a several times in a week in order to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Spinach can be enjoyed in salads, soups, steamed or sautéed. Along with spinach, eat other green leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens, Swiss chard and romaine lettuce.
